Labor Day Weekend 2020
This is the last weekend of lifeguarding. I made $14 per hour this summer and was able to buy myself an iphone and an Apple Airbook. So now I use both my PC and Apple book for virtual school. One for class and one for googling and schedule reminds.
One of the lifeguards said I should be a ski instructor at Mt. Peters where he works since my ski instructor job at the overnight ski camp in Otis, MA is closed this winter. He said he could drive me to Mt. Peters. I’m also thinking of working at the local ice rink when restrictions are lifted.
I went to more than a few parties this summer. One party the police were called, and I ran with the group I was talking with and called dad to pick me up. We are white suburban kids, so nothing will happen. This got me thinking about everything that could have happened if we were from a different neighborhood. I read The Hate You Give a few years ago, and used footage from Philando Castille police killing in my National History Day Project in 8th grade.
The thing about privilege is that people have it all wrong. We need to elevate privilege in this country so that EVERYONE has it. It seems to be marketed as something that we need to take away from those who have it rather than it given to everyone. Then everyone will be treated with respect not just the random few in power.
